Some numbers are real but you will never see them. 🔢
Think of something like the number of times you’ve walked through a doorway🚪. It’s a real number – it exists – but you’ll never know what it is. Simply because it was never measured.
That number isn’t necessarily useful. But what about the number of times someone clicked a CTA on your site? 🔍 Or the drop-off rate before signup? 📉 Or how many users come back after day 7? 📈
Those are also real numbers. 🧮 And if you never set things up to track them, you won’t know them either.
One of the most frustrating moments in a data conversation is when someone asks for a basic number, and it’s just not there. Not because it’s hard to calculate, but because no one thought to measure it in the first place.
And sometimes, no one even asks – which is worse. Because until you look at your digital assets as a full funnel (and not just on the onboarding flow), you might not even realize what you’re missing. 💡
Some numbers are real but you will never see them – not because they don’t matter, but because they were never captured in the first place.
